Braids bridal trends 2018

PLAITS, AN ULTRA-CHIC ALTERNATIVE TO THE ‘USUAL’ UPDO. GIULIANA PARABIAGO’S EDITORIAL EXPLORES ONE OF THE TOP BRIDAL AND SPECIAL EVENT HAIRSTYLE TRENDS OF 2018.

Extra-long and fairytale-like reminiscent of Rapunzel, childlike pigtails resembling Little Red Riding Hood or one-sided and soft like Elsa from Frozen, plaits have always conjured romantic imagery, but this spring, they're set to take it to the next level. Dior was the first to re-discover plaits and spotlight them on the runway this spring. The fashion house chose to style the hair below the high bun with a ray of plaits. Alberta Ferretti instead opted for decisively less ‘curated’ versions. From then onwards, the trend has flourished with tribal, regal, childlike, soft and messy or ultra-tight braids, similar to a ribbon used to form a crown or frame a ponytail.

Classic plaits, French plaits, voluminous and heavy plaits, as well as ‘VIP’ plaits like those flaunted by Kim Kardashian. A suggestion that has been well-received by brides who are always on the lookout for an alternative to the usual updo. ‘Designer’ plaits and more spontaneous plaits, plaits that unravel into an updo or that are so tightly and precisely braided to the head that they appear impenetrable.

We have but one suggestion:  be sure to harmonise your chosen style with the neck and neckline of your gown and, should your plait be lacking in volume, simply give it a much-needed boost with the appropriate extensions!
