The bride wears the trousers

Dresses: Carla Sposa, Justin Alexander and Nicole Fashion Group

In 2020, the bride will be wearing trousers, but we’re not talking about a change in roles, rather about a fashion trend. The reason is simple, as it's all about contemporary femininity and desire to experiment. Sì Sposaitalia Collezioni has talked to buyers and exhibitors and there is no shortage of surprises, with trousers and jumpsuits galore.

The 2020 trend sees the bride rediscover trousers. What do you think?

“There are no rules in fashion and the bridal segment is no exception - anything goes” comments Alessandra Rinaudo of Nicole Fashion Group “So you can choose between an ultra-modern two piece with trousers and a sparkling tuxedo or a super feminine jumpsuit!”.

“Trousers aren’t exactly a trend, as they’ve always been on the scene. The difference this year lies in the refined details” explains Justin Alexander. “All with an eye to nature that, with floral embroidery and laser-cut leaves, gives life to a flourish of unique decorations”.

“I don’t think trousers are set to become a fashion or trend” explains Jeong Han Kim, director of Korean atelier COLLECT B. Unlike his western colleagues, he suggests that brides in the east are not yet ready for a radical change in wedding attire.

“I think it’s a beautiful trend and, as such, finds room in a collection but without being fundamental” says Guglielmo Bonini, manager of the Bonini Marsala store. “Different styles and tastes coexist in every proposal and it’s only right that space is given to those who prefer trousers, but without this becoming a leading trend”.

“Trousers are an individual choice but this takes nothing away in terms of femininity, particularly if the look is interpreted in the right way” comments Francesca Di Bartolomeo, from Carla Sposa. “Accessories make the real difference and we pay great attention to them, overskirts and capes allowing a bride to personalise her outfit in a unique way, particularly when we’re talking about trousers”.

“Trousers are not considered part of our brides’ outfits in Japan” explains Miki from Sophia Trading who confirms that the eastern world is still tied to the more traditional full skirt dress for the wedding ceremony.

What kind of bride opts for trousers?

Alessandra Rinaudo - Nicole Fashion Group “A bride in trousers is a modern, self-assured woman who loves trends and wants to stand out, choosing an outfit in which sophisticated glamour meets comfort”.

Justin Alexander “The most modern bride chooses trousers and shows off her edgy, very free spirit”.

Jeong Han Kim - Collect B. “Korean brides do not choose trousers, still preferring the dress with full skirt…”

Guglielmo Bonini - Bonini Marsala “A bride who knows what she’s doing. Often it’s not her first wedding and it may well be a civil ceremony”.

Francesca Di Bartolomeo - Carla Sposa “While it’s true that a determined, conscious woman will often choose trousers, it’s equally important to consider the reasons that often lead to this choice (from the type of ceremony to the physicality of the bride and even the desire to diversify)”.

Miki from Sophia Trading “In Japan - traditionally very conservative - I’ve never seen a bride choosing trousers but if I were to imagine her, I would see a woman who loves fashion and the latest trends”.

What do you offer in your boutique?  Would you say jumpsuit or trousers?

Alessandra Rinaudo - Nicole Fashion Group “A dinner jacket and sparkly top brighten the Alessandra Rinaudo tuxedo, the trousers of which are slimming for the female figure, while the Jolie collection jumpsuit is all about ultimate glamour, thanks to the pairing of wide-leg trousers with a sensual neckline”.

Justin Alexander “Trousers will be the real trend in 2020”.

Guglielmo Bonini - Bonini Marsala “Both lace trousers with a top and jumpsuits”.

Francesca Di Bartolomeo - Carla Sposa “Both are perfect for the wedding day. We propose outfits with trousers, enhanced with luxurious capes or weightless overskirts, or sophisticated jumpsuits”.
