Winter bride: suggestions from maisons and ateliers

Winter wedding: a season brimming with style! According to professionals, a winter wedding dress offers infinite possibilities: from plays of fabrics to the matching of accessories, in a blend of classical garments and warm alternatives which create original and refined looks. Let's find out more about what buyers and exhibitors think and propose.

Are there many women who choose to get married in winter? What do you suggest for them?

"Brides who choose to get married in the winter are an exceptional minority", according to Massimo Moles and Valeria Prisco, founders of Jillian. "For them we propose our classic models revisited according to the context: stoles and capes which can be worn and removed when things warm up."

My Secret Sposa concurs that only a pioneering handful of brides chooses to get married in the winter: “Our dresses are mostly low-necked and proposed in the winter version with exquisite shawls and jackets", adds the designer Rosalinda Pizzutilo

"In the last few years it has become a veritable trend", Pietro Demitastylist and owner of Diamond Couture explains - “couples choose to get married in cooler months for a number of reasons. Above all, it is an unusual and original decision because it makes for a magical atmosphere.

Fine Dress, a prestigious Vienna-based atelier, adds: “We propose long-sleeved models with the addition of warm jackets or cosy capes", states Karin KrizekCEO of the brand

From Russia, Anastasia Vinogradova of Wonder White confirms that "there aren't many brides who choose to get married in the winter, due to the cold. Already in February they try on dresses for the summer."

Do you propose dedicated winter collections or a selection of warm garments in spring collections?

Massimo Moles and Valeria Prisco - Jillian. "We don't have an actual winter collection so to speak: this is why we propose capes, cloaks and other items which cover the shoulders and add a touch of warm style to the bridal look."

Rosalinda Pizzutilo - My Secret Sposa “We create one collection per year which is centred around spring-summer, but in which you'll always find long-sleeved dresses and warmer alternatives.”

Pietro Demita - Diamond Couture. “We propose a collection dedicated to the colder months which draws inspiration from tradition but with an eye on the future: long sleeves in fabric or rigorously fitted lace; plunging necklines and vertiginous transparencies, completed by mohair stoles, or faux fur collars and inserts.”

Karin Krizek - Fine Dress “Long-sleeved dresses and the sheer skill of our tailors, capable of fulfilling every bride's wishes, means that we can do without a dedicated winter collection as we are able to adapt to all requirements and weather conditions!”

Anastasia Vinogradova - Wonder White “Our atelier presents a broad and diversified choice, ranging from long-sleeved dresses to fur capes, warm accessories and details which can be added to a total-look”.

What are women looking for and what is still lacking on the market?

Massimo Moles and Valeria Prisco - Jillian “Brides appreciate our proposals which combine warm garments and traditional dresses because they can show off their selected dress simply by removing their stole or fur”.

Rosalinda Pizzutilo - My Secret Sposa “I think the market is highly focused on bridal requirements, nearly anticipating them and certainly making them available immediately upon demand”.

Pietro Demita - Diamond Couture “On today's market it really is difficult not to make a bride's dream come true! There is a vast choice and selection."

Karin Krizek - Fine Dress “We feel that the market is lacking in capes and winter jackets, made from refined and elegantly tailored materials”.

Anastasia Vinogradova - Wonder White “Our proposals are exhaustive for current market requirements and summer weddings still prevail”.

What are the fabrics for winter?

Massimo Moles and Valeria Prisco - Jillian “Undoubtedly heavier fabrics, like satin and mikado”.

Rosalinda Pizzutilo - My Secret Sposa “I wouldn't speak of strictly wintry fabrics in bridal wear, because even a mikado, more full-bodied and structured, is chosen in virtue of its constructive characteristics rather than for seasonal requirements”.

Pietro Demita - Diamond Couture “There are so many winter fabrics and the one we use the most is brocade, which is compact and noble, cady which has a textured hand, elegant and shiny duchesse, gazar and the more classic silk mikado, very dense to the touch”.

Karin Krizek - Fine Dress “Distinctively wintry textures we privilege are those in relation to jackets and capes, for which we select cashmere and silk, whereas dress fabrics remain the same ”.

Anastasia Vinogradova - Wonder White “Mikado and crêpe are undoubtedly the unchallenged protagonists of winter”.
