When a band around the head is the crowning touch!

The latest trend rediscovers headbands: wide and crafted in silk, plus lace hair bands that reach down to the shoulders

For brides, a hairstyle is almost as important as a wedding gown, and the two must go beautifully together. And after several ‘royal’ seasons that saw headpieces fit for princesses worn from morning till night, prompting a mass revival in tiaras with varying amounts of sparkle, now we are seeing a growing return to simplicity, with a few nods to the Sixties. Headbands have always been used to add a bon ton touch, whether ultra-slim verging on the invisible, just to hold hair back off the forehead, or wide halo styles that virtually frame the face. It appears that the ancient Greeks were the first to adopt them, developing sash-like bands used to adorn hairstyles. It was, however, Alice in Wonderland who sealed their popularity, as she was never portrayed without one, so much so that they became known as ‘Alice bands’.

For 2020 brides therefore, simple, unfussy hairstyles are the order of the day, (worn loose or in a simple pony tail or bun), finished with a precious embroidered hair band in lace, or a striking halo headband in silk that can also be used to secure a veil.
