So many VIP weddings: which dresses did they pick?

What is the connection that links the choice of stars? Is there only one trend?

An extraordinary hot summer, not only weather-wise, but also for VIP weddings and more. There are so many famous couples who chose not to wait any longer and to celebrate their wedding in a grand and romantic way, just as there has been no lack of “will you marry me” in front of large audiences, first of all that of Timofej Andrijashenko to Nicoletta Manni, in front of a thousand attendees at the Arena di Verona, right after dancing the Romeo and Juliet pas de deux, with Roberto Bolle. All eyes on Jennifer Lopez who re-married Ben Affleck in Riceboro, Georgia. She wore three dresses, all by Ralph Lauren: low-collared at the front and low-cut at the back, the first with fluttering sleeves and a mermaid line opening into a very rich, wavy, 6-metre-long train.

A deep front neckline emphasised by a Swarovski “necklace” edge for the second. Pearls and crystals dressed the shoulders like a precious handmade necklace in the third dress.

Federica Pellegrini’s wedding was followed closely in Italy and beyond. Just a few seasons ago, she had been the ambassador of Sì Sposaitalia Collezioni and the event brought her luck. The sports champion wore a gown with a bandeau neckline that framed her shoulders, designed by Nicole Cavallo of Nicole Milano, a Pronovias group brand, made of mikado, simple and without decorations, while she emphasised her choice of veil with a large single flower.

An interesting note: she reached the church, San Zaccaria in Venice, wearing white-framed sunglasses, of course. Model Nina Senicar and actor Jay Ellis, who both chose Dolce & Gabbana garments, got married in Italy, in Tuscany. She chose a shoulderless dress with a wide, vaporous, princess-like skirt with a deep slit. Journalist Eleonora Boi and basketball player Danilo Gallinari got married in Sardinia. She chose two dresses, both by Atelier Pronovias: mermaid lace and “Madonna” veil on the first, while for the party dress a white, heart-shaped neckline and Renaissance sleeves.

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz got married in Palm Beach. For her, a Valentino Couture dress: almost a white evening dress with flat straps complemented by a veil and matching long gloves.

But what is the connection that links all the dresses at these ceremonies forming a single trend?

Certainly the apparent simplicity: clean, sharp, and well-designed lines. No accessories except for the essentials, and just a few precious decorations. Marked waist, attention to the neckline, big sleeves.

Veil and long train were ever present, as if the bride wanted to leave a mark as she walked by. Certainly there was also a preference for either lace or mikado.

And no one ever gives up on a white dress!
